Cone Beam Computed Tomography Scans (CBCT)
Cone beam computed tomography is a medical imaging technique that provides endodontists with a three-dimensional, digital image of the teeth and surrounding structures. When indicated, this three dimensional image allows us to more easily diagnose and treat difficult dental anatomy, resorptive defects, and other anatomical variations not fully illustrated with traditional two dimensional radiographs.
During a CBCT scan, the machine rotates around the patient, capturing images using a cone-shaped X-ray beam. These images are then used to construct a 3-D representation of the patient’s teeth and surrounding boney structures.
